The name Achilles tendon came from the Greek hero Achilles. Achilles tendon is defined as the strongest and thickest tendon in the human body. It is located on the back side of the lower leg and it comes from the muscle triceps surae, Achilles tendon is constructed in a way so that it can endure great force. Its fuction is very important because it participates in performing many everyday actions such as: jumping, running and walking. Even though the Achilles tendon is the extremely strong, it is still very subject to ruptures, which are unavoidable in tendons because of great forces, weight and sudden movements, which the tendon can not endure. Many clinical symptoms indicate that a rupture has occurred. The most common position of rupture is 2-6 centimeters from the heel tendon grip. This injury is treated conservatively or operatively. If the injury can not be fixed in a conservative way, we must resort to surgery. The first step of injury care is Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation or the PRICE method. In the frame of rehabilitation, we consider every physiotherapy procedure, that includes therapy ultrasound, laser treatment, electrostimulation and kinesitherapy, the most important component according to research. When setting up therapeutic exercises and a goal, individual approach and the patients engagement in order to achieve the best results, are key. The process of rehabilitation can last anywhere from 6 weeks to 12 months. At the end of rehabilitation, it is crucial to educate the patient of their current state and capabilities. Education is conducted so that the patient learns to prevent injury and continue to exercise at home.
