This paper describes the anatomical and physiological changes that occur during the first, the second and the third trimester of pregnancy, as well as the period after the childbirth. Pregnancy is a condition when a new life is created and when the womans body is accompanied by numerous changes. In the first trimester, the emphasis is on hormonal changes. Those changes are manifested through skin changes, morning sickness, etc. Postural changes are most visible in the second trimester due to the growth of the fetus and the forward tilting of the pelvis. The third trimester is specific, because the womans body adapts to the imminent arrival of the child. The legs are scattered with edema and movement tends to be difficult. Therapeutic exercises adapted for women in pregnancy are applied to make movements and every-day functioning easier. Based on the research papers used to write this paper, the positive effect of exercise and their positive role in helping pregnant women to accept their physical and psychological selfimage was determined. The recommendations are adapted to the pregnancy itself and the needs of the pregnant woman are determined by the gynecologist monitoring the pregnancy. If the pregnancy and the general health are in order, exercise can be started immediately. It will therefore prevent the course of changes that can leave long lasting and painful consequences. Changes that occur during the pregnancy as well as after childbirth require phyisical therapy to better the phyisical state of the woman. Physical therapy is most important during the last trimester as well as in the first three months after the childbirth.
