The movements of the cervical spine can be performed in all three planes and it is the most mobile region of the spine. Due to a sedentary lifestyle, pain syndromes occur and one of the most common is cervical pain syndrome, which is influenced by a number of factors such as lack of physical activity, excessive muscle tension, improper posture, post-traumatic injuries, inflammatory rheumatic diseases. Symptoms of cervical pain syndrome are: neck stiffness, headache, sharp pain. Cervical pain syndrome has three phases, acute, subacute and chronic. It is important to make a thorough assessment according to the SOAP method. The Neck Disability Index which used to assess the impact of pain on daily activities. In addition to the examination, radiological examinations such as X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography are performed. Electromyoneurography is used for neurological examination. The examination is followed by a physiotherapeutic intervention which begins with methods to reduce pain. In the acute phase, dosed rest is important and cryotherapy is applied. In the later stages, paraffin thermotherapy is important. Ultrasound therapy is used to reduce pain and muscle spasms. Electrotherapy most often uses galvanization, TENS and diadynamic currents. Of the manual methods, traction and massage are described. The goal of physiotherapy exercises is to restore the full range of motion of the cervical spine and strengthen muscles. There will be also represented examples of static and active exercises. In order for therapies to give a positive result, it is necessary to educate the patient. A person who sits or works on a computer for a long time should take short breaks and adjust the work space to avoid new problems.
