Cerebral palsy is a lifelong condition that is diagnosed in early childhood and is one of the most common neurological problems in young age. It is caused by damage or abnormal development of the brain that can occur before, during or after birth. The damage occurs in the frontal lobe, which houses the primary motor cortex, responsible for controlling voluntary body movements. As a result, damage to the locomotor system is made. Difficulties related to movement control, maintaining balance and postural problems occur. Depending on the form of cerebral palsy, complications may occur in the whole organism. Speech problems, feeding difficulties, behavioral and learning disabilities, increased salivation, vision problems, delayed motor development, epilepsy and others may occur. This requires a multidisciplinary approach where each expert in his field will influence a certain segment of the child's treatment. An indispensable member of the team are parents, who play a key role in the entire therapy process. For therapy to be successful, cooperation between parents and therapist is essential. There is no cure for cerebral palsy as it is an incurable condition. However, there are numerous treatment options that help the child's daily functioning. When assessing a child, it is important to determine the level of independence in order to determine which aids are necessary. Orthoses are most often used for the lower extremities, and braces for the spine. Wheelchairs are used for paraplegia and tetraplegia. This graduation thesis lists the most common treatments used in thrapy for children with cerebral palsy. Each of them has one goal. It is to develop the maximum improvement of functional ability and quality of life with an emphasis on independence in the performance of activities of daily life.
