Childbirth occurs in the time period from the 37th to the 42nd week of pregnancy and is defined as the mechanism of pushing out the fetus and other products of conception. The mechanism of vaginal birth consists of four stages of labor, while a caesarean section is an operation during which the front part of the abdominal wall and uterus is opened. There are various complications that can occur after childbirth, and some of the most common are urogenital dysfunctions such as urinary or fecal incontinence and the occurrence of diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscle. The main goal of physiotherapy intervention is the prevention of the mentioned complications. The intervention begins immediately after childbirth, a physiotherapeutic assessment of the mother is performed and the goals of the therapy are determined. The therapy plan is to do breathing exercises, circulation exercises, education of the mother about positioning in bed, getting up and walking after a caesarean section, and exercises to strengthen the abdominal musculature and pelvic floor muscles. In addition to all of the above, it is important to motivate the mother to recover as soon as possible so she can easily take a care of her child.
